Uncle Ernie may be gone, but the beach bar that he opened on Shoal Bay in 1984 is still kicking. Lying at the busier end of the bay, this popular island institution is open for lunch and early dinner, serving up generous plates of barbecued chicken and ribs, local crayfish, fresh fish, and newfangled lobster and chicken "pocket" sandwiches, served with fries and coleslaw. Did we mention cold beer for $2.50? Live music is on tap every Sunday afternoon. The beach out front is stupendous. You can rent a couple of beach chairs and umbrella for $10 and make a glorious day of it.
