Owl Cafe & The Tap Room
Ensconced on the first floor of a two-story clapboard building dating back to 1900 in the heart of downtown, this charming restaurant is known for its spin on Southern favorites including BBQ shrimp with house scotch sauce, fried oysters, shrimp and grits with pork belly, and country ham collard greens. It calls its crab dip “famous” and while I’m not sure that’s true, it’s certainly estimable. There’s also an impressive, extensive wine list and a nice Sunday brunch. The Tap Room is the restaurant’s very popular tavern, also known as Tapalachicola, a brick-walled hangout with beer, cocktails, bar fare and lots of local color.
