Hotels in Arad
Arad's three main hotels all cater to visitors with asthma and respiratory problems. The tourist office, with advance notice, can help set you up with a room in a private house or a B&B starting at $75 (£38) for two people. The town has few restaurants, but snack places can be found in the commercial center. Max's, 9 Maccabim St. (tel. 08/997-3339), has the best pub/restaurant menu in town: You'll find skewers of meat, salads, pasta, and hummus, all served in generous portions. Open Monday to Saturday 8am to 11pm. Muza, located just behind the gas station at the Rte. 31 entrance to Arad (tel. 08/995-8764), offers five plasma screens broadcasting a steady stream of Israeli and international sports, and a meat menu of lamb chops, entrecôte, hamburgers, and beer on tap. Open daily noon to after 2am.
