No establishment is more associated with late local legend Hunter S. Thompson. Fans learned the “Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas” author would hang out here, leading Thompson to call the bar to keep it open late for him—and him alone. Today you will still find many nods to the gonzo journalist in the photos and posters plastering the walls, but the connection is not the only reason to come. The Mexican food is the best in the valley—the tamales have attained near-mythic status—and the strong, blue agave margaritas are the best in the Aspen area. Neither credit cards nor reservations are accepted.
