Krog Street Market is one of the most vital places in this vibrant city—a "west-coast style" market (to use their phrase) set in a 1920's era brick warehouse. It has a good dozen eateries to choose from, but we like Watchman's best for its all-hits menu, and its well-mixed cocktails. A seafood specialist, Watchman offers a selection of fried fish options (oyster po'boys, crispy catfish), creative raw bar options including many unusual gulf coast oysters, and wonderfully fresh salads. Our one warning would be to ask about the actual size of the dish you're ordering: in many cases the "small plates" are far larger than the entrees (we're looking at you, grouper collar, pictured above), meaning you can have a hearty meal at appetizer prices. Watchman's sister restaurant Kimball House also serves topnotch seafood, and is a good alternative when you can't get a reservation here.
