Moco Museum Barcelona
This independent museum moved in a couple of doors down from Museu Picasso in 2021, giving a welcome jolt to Barcelona’s conservative museum scene. Set in a 16th-century Gothic palace, the two-story exhibition space is small, but its collection is stellar. The first floor features modern and contemporary artists including Julian Opie, David LaChapelle and Andy Warhol, while upstairs has a mix of edgy street art—including Banksy—and digital pieces by emerging artists. Highlights include an immersive light-and-mirror installation by Studio Irma and a 20-foot sculpture parodying Mickey Mouse by KAWS in the courtyard (pictured). Our only quibble is that there’s nothing particularly Barcelona about it—indeed, Moco also has branches in London and Amsterdam.
