Several LGBT travel publications give Axel their imprimatur, and it’s easy to see why. A huge mural of two men embracing adorns the lobby, there’s gay erotic art in most guest rooms, the on-site boutique sells skimpy men’s bathing trunks, and there’s a strong flirting scene at the rooftop pool, sun deck, and cocktail bar. Still, the hotel advertises itself as being hetero-friendly, and with its rich linens, larger-than-usual rooms (with true king beds instead of two twins pushed together), and a full menu of pillow choices, Axel should appeal to travelers of all orientations, but adults only.
