Hotel 1898

The impressive former headquarters of the Philippines Tobacco Company, built in 1898, occupy the most appealing stretch of La Rambla a two-minute stroll from La Boqueria market. Many historical details have been preserved, including the vast marble lobby and the intricate ironwork of its grand entrance. Standard rooms, conservatively decorated in reds and greens, have less character but plenty of space. They face an internal courtyard, so you might want to upgrade to a street-facing room. The 5th-floor Colonial suites feature a large private patio and pool with old city views. There is also a lovely brick-vaulted spa and thermal circuit.
