Superb soundproofing makes the elegant rooms on this, the loudest stretch of Les Rambles, surprisingly quiet. As for decor, the owners re-created the opulence of imperial Spain but with 21st-century conveniences, and named the hotel for the year that Spain lost the Philippines. (The building once served as the headquarters of the Philippines Tobacco Company.) The broad rooftop terrace even features a full lap pool. Rooms are graded in five levels, but even the lowliest is sumptuous and comfortable. Upgrade only if you need a lot of extra space.
