When the local Gargallo group created this hotel in 2006, they maintained the stately facade of the 19th-century neoclassical family palace known as Casa Carbonell while creating an airy contemporary hotel in the interior. The central courtyard provides light to interior rooms, but it is glassed over on the first floor to create a pleasant lounge. Rooms balance light wood furniture and hardwood floors with blue upholstery, blue drapes, and blue decorator accents—looking very much “del Mar,” or “of the sea.” Said ocean is visible from upper level rooms and the very pleasant rooftop terrace.
