This hotel at the crossroads of Jaume I/Princesa and Via Laietana is our favorite among the cluster of Gargallo family hotels on the same block. The historic building from 1823 was transformed into a hotel in 1999 and completely renovated in 2012. Acres of marble cover the entry foyer (as well as the bathrooms) and golden accents glimmer against wood inlay and exposed brick. Guest rooms are a little snug but are simply decorated with furniture that reinterprets the Modernista aesthetic through the lens of Danish Modern. The location is terrific for walking swiftly to the cathedral in one direction, the Museu Picasso in the other. Friendly and solicitous staff make the experience of staying here all the more pleasant.
