Hotel Lamaro

Occupying a Neoclassical block directly opposite Barcelona’s cathedral, Lamaro is the latest incarnation of the famous Hotel Colón, a favorite of Hemingway and the Catalan artist Joan Miró, who lived here when in Barcelona in the 1960s and 70s. Renamed in 2024 and refurbished in soothing beige tones throughout, its 137 rooms are the height of understated comfort, and some have close-up cathedral views. Guests and non-guests can enjoy a drink on the spacious roof-top terrace with an unbeatable panorama of the cathedral façade and the old city skyline. Staff are particularly friendly and helpful. Given the location and level of service, the rates represent excellent value.
