Surrounded by designer boutique hotels where all the furnishings are dark wood, all the floors are Pergo, and all the soft goods are shades of brown and taupe, the Lleó is a Spanish throwback of blond wood furniture, tan walls, and hardwood floors. It’s like finding a caramel in a box of chocolates—different but just as good in its own way. The hotel is penalized a star in the official ratings for no restaurant, so it’s a bargain for the quality. Rooms are adequately sized with decent desks, comfortable beds, and small but well-designed bathrooms. In summer, the rooftop terrace and pool are welcome surprises in this price range.
