This budget hotel celebrates Barcelona’s 1960s generation, the Gauche Divine. As Franco’s Spain continued to look backwards, they opened their eyes to the cultural revolution taking place in the US and across Europe. The time travel theme begins with a vintage Seat 600 car parked next to the reception desk (itself made from a pile of old suitcases) and continues in the guestrooms, whose walls are a collage of iconic images from the period, from bullfighters to the bikini. The formula is proving popular. By lunchtime, the lobby bar’s mid-century armchairs are filled with Gen Z-ers coworking on their laptops. The hotel is on a slightly edgy side street a short walk from the port end of La Rambla, take care if returning late at night.
