If you prize uniqueness and informality over routine, this former captain’s house may be your B&B of choice. Fun is the buzzword here. Your host, Bill Putnam, has amassed an unusual collection of red sports cars, 55 at last count. As for the B&B itself, it feels like old Cape Cod, except with modern niceties. The rooms are decorated with whimsy in mind, with animal themes reflected in the bedding, artwork, and knickknacks. The interior also reflects the historic nature of the property, with antique reproductions and four-poster beds, for example. There is a billiard room and a backyard with some well-placed hammocks. The inn allows dogs; Putnam has a large number of cats.
