Hotels in Bayamo
Quite a few casas particulares can be found in the old center of Bayamo. Casa Arturo & Esmeralda, Calle Zenea 56A between William Soler and Capote (tel. 23/42-4051; www.casa-bayamo.com) offers two air-conditioned rooms with TVs and minibars, located in a modern, welcoming house. Casa Olga Celeiro Rizo, Calle Parada 16 (Altos) between Martí and Mármol (tel. 23/42-3859; yaimara.grm@infomed.sld.cu), is a friendly house with two comfortable, air-conditioned rooms and a great terrace overlooking the pleasant Francisco Maceo Osorio plaza; Olga can help with excursions. Villa Rose Mary, Pío Rosado 22 between Ramírez and Avenida F.V. Aguilera (tel. 23/42-3984; www.cubahostal.com; varezsanchez@yahoo.es), is an attractive house with two comfortable, clean, air-conditioned rooms. Casa Juan Valdés, Pío Rosado 64 between Ramírez and N López (tel. 23/42-3324), has an upstairs floor with a bedroom, bathroom, kitchenette, and sitting room. It's inexpensive, and would be great for a family.
In addition to the hotels listed in this guide, another good option and excellent value is the former training school Hotel Telégrafo, Calle José Antonio Saco 108 (tel. 23/42-5510; www.ehtgr.co.cu), which is in the heart of downtown. It has 12 double rooms, each with air-conditioning, a TV, and a small refrigerator. The hotel is now part of the newly branded Royalton; at press time, it was closed for renovations, but it is slated to reopen in December 2010.
