The sweeping views from an outdoor terrace overlooking Tiananmen Square would be enough to ensure a steady flow of business at Capital M, but this glamorous space also has consistently good food, which keeps loyal customers returning. The creative interior, with vibrant geometric parquet floors, a huge mural depicting seasons along a river, and elegant tableware, makes this 400-seat space always feel like a special occasion. Australian owner Michelle Garnaut, who also set up the legendary M on the Bund in Shanghai and M on the Fringe in Hong Kong, pulled out all the stops here. The international menu is constantly changing, but signature dishes include the savory suckling pig, salt-baked lamb, and hot house-smoked salmon. Make sure to save room for the famed pavlova dessert, which is a mouthwatering concoction of meringue, cream, and fruit. Reservations are recommended.
