The German State Opera performs in the Staatsoper Unter den Linden. This was for years the showcase of the opera scene of East Germany. Originally constructed in 1743 and destroyed in World War II, the house was rebuilt in the 1950s, reproducing as closely as possible the original designs of Georg Knobelsdorff. Some of the world's finest operas, as well as concerts and ballets, are presented here. The opera house will close in 2010 for a 3-year renovation. The box office is open Monday to Friday 11am to 7pm, Saturday and Sunday 2 to 7pm.
