The Taste of the Grape & an Overnight Too
Since 1156, the Prüm family has operated a winery at this spot. Today S. A. Prüm Winery, Uferallee 25-26, 54470 Bernkastel-Wehlen (tel. 06531/3110; fax 06531/8555; www.sapruem.com), allows visitors onto the estate for a wine tasting, costing from 14€. Reservations are advised. For centuries, the winery has been known for its Rieslings but now offers Weissburgunder/Pinot Blanc, which is a delight. Visits are possible Monday to Friday 10am to noon and 2 to 4pm, and Saturday 10am to 4pm. There is a beautifully decorated guesthouse of eight spacious bedrooms, furnished in part with antique pieces. A patio garden opens onto the Mosel. Doubles rent for 69€ to 89€ a night and are equipped with neatly tiled bathrooms with showers. Each unit comes with a TV and Internet, and rates include buffet breakfast. The winery and guesthouse are closed December to mid-February. American Express, MasterCard, and Visa are accepted.
