You know that an industry is really finished when the city builds a museum about it. Bilbao was a great shipbuilding center on Spain’s north coast since the beginning of the Industrial Revolution. Now it is a city about information and information technology, so this excellent maritime museum, built on the site of the last active shipyard, is a requiem for Bilbao’s seagoing era. Outdoor exhibits display several restored historic vessels, and visitors can board them and let their imaginations run wild. Other exhibitions focus on the transformation of the riverfront into an amenity to be enjoyed by all.
