If you have time, visit the Eglise Notre-Dame, off place Carriat. Begun in 1505, it contains some finely carved 16th-century stalls. If you'd like to wander around town, check out the 15th-century houses on rue du Palais and rue Gambetta.

Explore French city, countryside, and mountain landscapes that are reproduced with miniature buildings, roads, vehicles, and characters.

No trip to Bourg-en-Bresse is complete without visiting the covered food market in avenue du Champ de Foire. Every Wednesday and Saturday morning, you’ll be able to browse the myriad stalls for flowers, fruit, vegetables, cheese, and even live chickens. Chocoholics are catered for with no less than seven chocolate shops: one of the best is Chocolaterie Monet, 14 rue Bichat (tel. 04-74-23-47-42), where you’ll find excellent truffles and seasonally themed chocolates.
