Get lost in the vintage Italian charm and disorder at this little spot which since 1981 has been a fixture in Palermo, near the zoo and far from most tourists. Checkered table clothes, walls covered in Gancia posters, maps and old photos, casual service, and sometimes too-loud Italian music playing create a welcoming, decidedly unpretentious atmosphere. Superb pastas and sauces, and pizzas with loads of topping options make up a simple, healthy menu. Our favorite is the slow-braised lamb sorrentinos (stuffed pasta) in truffle and porcini mushroom sauce, though many diners choose simply to trust the chef to send out whatever is best that day.
