A mansion, constructed just before the 20th century and with much of its charm intact, is our budget pick for the town. Rarely do you get a place this lovely for these rates. A Venetian architect was in charge, so there are such unusual touches as molded Venetian stucco on the ceilings and staircase, decorative tiles, and lovely chandeliers. Rooms vary in size, but some are marvelously spacious, and all have a real sense of style to them, which plays out in the choice of wall art, the (sometimes) intense blues and reds of the walls themselves, and the drapery that overhangs the beds. No two look alike, but they all have modern bathrooms and good-quality mattresses. The hotel is about a 7-minute stroll from the central square.
