One of the oldest paradors in the system, this state-run beauty is set inside a 15th-century palace. A top-to-bottom renovation in 2011 added LED lighting, modern bathrooms, and much-needed 21st-century heating and air-conditioning. The ambience, however, is still delightfully old-fashioned. How could it not be, with suits of armor standing guard in the lobby and hallways? The rooms are austerely handsome with fine dark-wood furnishings and white walls (very typical of Extremadura decor). Guests love to relax on the plant-and-flower-laden patios.
