A short stroll from the beaches and main drag, the popular El Encanto does seem to have a touch of enchantment to it. A tranquil compound that’s dominated by a whitewashed, colonial-style guesthouse, it’s an exotic mix of the tropical (bromeliads, heliconias, and orchids all over) and the indigenous Central American (seven guestrooms with arched doorways and windows, lively artwork on the walls, and varnished wood or red terra cotta floors). Modern conveniences aren’t ignored: There’s a small pool and gazebos that house a two-person Jacuzzi, and a pair of hanging chairs meant to lull you into a midafternoon siesta. Service is extremely friendly and accommodating.
