Castle Rock Country Inn
The hillside perch from which Castle Rock overlooks the Ingonish area and the ocean beyond feels like an eagle’s eyrie. It’s the last view of the Ingonish enclave and the park before climbing over Cape Smokey. As you’d expect, the rooms facing that direction come with extraordinary views and cost more than others. The Avalon Restaurant ★, with deck, shares this spectacular vantage point and offer an Asian–Nova Scotian fusion menu; organic produce and local seafood star in dishes like crab dumplings in Asian dipping sauce; it’s open to hotel guests for dinner only seasonally but remains open year-round for breakfast. Unlike the views, the rooms themselves in the large, white house with pale blue shutters, are rather ordinary, furnished with queen-size beds and a small table and chairs on carpeted floors. Pets are permitted in some rooms.
