Inverary Resort

In 2018, this iconic lakeside resort suffered a devastating fire that burned its historic main lodge to the ground. That means what was once their secondary restaurant, the Lakeside Restaurant at the marina, is now the place to eat at the resort, and the historic reception area is no more. But the calling card of the sprawling property, built in the mid-1800s, has always been its location, sweeping from Shore Road down to the lake across wide, green lawns studded with trees and gardens—and that hasn’t changed. Cottages, special event buildings, and hotel buildings are all painted a signature slate and spread across this sprawling 5 hectare (11-acre) property, which is within walking distance of town. Loads of activities await couples and families; you’ll find tennis and shuffleboard courts, a pool, fishing and paddleboats, kayaks and bikes. There’s nightly live music in the restaurant. Main Lodge rooms are newly renovated with hardwood floors and sweeping views of the Bras D’Or lakes. Each cottage has two side-by-side apartments, each equipped with a kitchen, as well as a deck with a barbecue. The hotel hosts many large groups like wedding parties, bus tours, and conventions, so find out before booking if a big event will be taking place, if you want to avoid crowds.
