Upo Wetlands
The largest swamp area in South Korea, the wetlands stretch across three counties and 13 villages. This primitive marsh, which is made up of four smaller, connected marshes, was created about 140 million years ago. There are over 1,000 different species of flora and fauna living in the wetlands. It is beautiful in the early morning or early evening when a light foglike rain descends upon the waters. The late summer months (Aug-Sept) bring out the fireflies and the winter attracts a variety of migrating birds to the area.
