Hotels in Chanthaburi Province

City lodgings are spartan. River Guest House (3/5–8 Si Chan Rd.; tel. 03932-8211) is not quite downtown but offers homey, air-conditioned rooms (starting at 350B), with quieter (fan only) rooms out back for 190B. Baan Luang Rajamaitri (www.tamajunhotel.com; 248 Sukhaphiban Road; tel. 03931-1977) is the nicest in town with rooms from 1,100B, and the hotel is a good spot for a Thai massage.  If you’re looking for a real country retreat, consider Faasai Resort & Spa (www.faasai.com; tel. 03941-7404), a small, award-winning eco-resort on the coast at Khung Wiman, about 30km (18.6 miles) southwest of Chanthaburi. It's run by a Thai-New Zealand couple, and rates are between 900B and 4,100B a night.
