The Great George
From the outside, the Great George looks more like a string of well-kept heritage homes than the boutique hotel it is. Inside, the early 19th-century buildings are beautifully restored and remarkably welcoming. On the “We’re glad you’re here” side is complimentary wine or craft beer at happy hour, plus snacks, like warm cookies throughout the day. In terms of the rooms: No two units are alike. In one, you’ll sleep in a four-poster bed, then walk across oriental carpets to a claw-foot tub. In another, a contemporary-looking mirror-backed king-size bed will dominate the bedroom, and a Jacuzzi framed by white-tile and marble column will do the same in the bathroom. Final perk: The hotel is set in the heart of the city’s most historic district.
