Restaurants in Charlottetown
For a quick pick-me-up while traversing the city, try Receiver Coffee Company at 128 Richmond Street (tel. 902/367-3436), set on Victoria Row, the pedestrian street in the heart of the city, or check out their more grab-and-go operation at 178 Water Street. In either location, you can get a tasty pastries, espresso, creative sandwiches, soups, and other light items. More substantial, but still quick, meals can be had at Water-Prince Corner Shop at 141 Water St. (tel. 902/368-3212). The eatery is set in what was once the community’s general store, offering a little bit of history. You’ll find the usual seafood chowder, fish and chips, steamed mussels, and lobster dinners, but all as fresh as possible and well made in a home-cooked, nothin’ fancy, generous portions way. Founders Food Hall & Market at 6 Prince St. has 18 local vendors offering up on-the-go food items like burgers, pizza, and tacos. PEI wineries and cheesemakers also sell their products here.
One of the best waterfront views in the city can be found in the elegant dining room in Holland College’s Culinary Institute of Canada at 4 Sydney St. (tel. 902/894-6868) where upscale lunches and dinners are prepared by the chefs of tomorrow when school is in session, with popular culinary bootcamps offered throughout the summer months.

Claddagh Oyster House
If you’re looking for the place the locals eat, you’ve found it. A modern take on an Irish pub, the Oyster House excels at shellfish but reaches beyond, doing quite well by umami-packed lobster risotto and PEI halibut with brown butter. The chowder here is fab. Preparation and…$$Around Town - Bavarian
Leonhard’s Café & Restaurant
When Alexandra and Axel Leonhard of Germany arrived in Charlottetown for English lessons, they couldn’t find the hearty bread they were used to, so they made their own, then started selling it. Today, they run one of the city’s most beloved little restaurants for breakfast, lunch,…$$Around Town - Surf and Turf
Sims Corner Steakhouse & Oyster Bar
Charlottetown’s premier steakhouse is actually a surf & turf joint, delivering prime cuts of beef for the carnivores and shellfish pulled from nearby waters for the pescatarians. On the meat side, PEI beef is sold by the ounce, but there are also options like braised duck leg…$$$Around Town - Gastropub
Slaymaker & Nichols Gastro House
This charmingly quirky gastropub and inn pays tribute to the founders of a circus that rolled into Charlottetown in 1864, creating a buzz in the city that, legend has it, could have been the catalyst behind the decision of the fathers of Confederation to form the nation of Canada…as…$$Around Town - Regional
The Dining Room at the Culinary Institute of Canada
The Dining Room is the "training restaurant" for the respected Culinary Institute of Canada's Charlottetown campus. The building is a bit institutional and charmless, but attentive service and custom china offset the lack of personality, and there's a lovely view of the bay and…$$Around Town - Fusion
The Merchantman Pub
More upscale than a bar, less fancy than a sit-down dining room, the Merchantman is as close to a "gastropub" (pub serving gourmet food) as there is on this island; even the nachos are gourmet. The kitchen specializes in seafood, often cooked with Cajun or Thai spices, but they cook…$$Around Town - Seafood
Water Prince Corner Shop
Located in what was once the community’s general store, the big blue peak roofed building is a little bit of history and a lot of good casual food.
