Oltre Il Giardino

Here you can dine on the terrace in warm weather or ensconce yourself in the intimate second-floor dining room, lit by table candles and a fireplace, with great Chianti-side views (so long as you don't look straight down from the window, where Panzano's mini-sprawl festers). The monthly menu usually includes primi like tagliatelle al ragù di anatra (they don't skimp on the duck) and maltagliati ai carciofi (sheets of fresh-cut pasta with artichoke hearts, tomatoes, celery, and carrots). The meat that goes into the excellent stracotto al chianti (beef strewed in chianti wine and served with sautéed spinach) and maiale al senape (suckling pig with mustard and pearl onions) comes from neighbor and famed "poet butcher" Dario Cecchini.
