Tucked away on the oldest street in Chinon is the town’s most cutting-edge cuisine. Set in an appealing 16th-century building the interior is decorated with paintings and photos from the 1930s, hence the restaurant’s name. Its excellent-value menu could include such dishes as rabbit terrine with grapefruit mousse and ginger sorbet, or duck with cherry reduction and poached pear. The raspberry millefeuille with thyme ice cream is the perfect way to end a summertime lunch on the vine-draped terrace. Vegetarian menu available on request.
