Near the bus station you will find clean and inexpensive yeogwan and a few fancier accommodations near the train station. An older but good hotel in the city center is Hotel Friendly, 102 Hoam-dong, Chungju-si (tel. 043/848-9900), near the Hoamji reservoir. Standard rooms start in the W80,000 to W120,000 range.
If you want upscale sleeping quarters with hot springs to boot, book a room at one of the hotels in the Suanbo resort area. One of the better options is the Chosun Tourist Hotel, 109-2 Oncheon-li, Sangmo-myeon, Chungju-si (tel. 043/848-8833; fax 043/848-8830), with 103 rooms and standard rooms starting at W126,000.
