Comayagua Attractions

At the time of writing, the entire colonial center of town was undergoing a major renovation funded by the Spanish Cooperation Agency that was expected to last several years. In addition to the attractions reviewed in full below, you might stop to at least check out the exterior of the colonial churches Nuestra Señora de la Caridad (7a Calle NO and 3a Av. NO), a 16th-century building that became the de facto place of worship for native Indians of the area, and the Iglesia y Convento de San Francisco (Av. 1a NE and 7a Calle NO) by the Parque Central. Though the Caxa Real (1a Av. NE and 6a Calle NO), the country's first tax collection house and an important part of Honduran history, has been more or less completely destroyed by fires and earthquakes over the years, you can stop by to see its stone facade, which is sadly all that remains.

Comayagua Shopping

One shop on the northeast corner of Parque Central and a booth right on it sell handicrafts from around the region, such as hammocks, woven junco placemats, and hand-sewn dolls. Prices are reasonable.
