Bar Santos

When you walk past this Cordoba institution on the Mezquita’s northeastern corner, you’ll see a picture of its white-haired founder Francisco Santos posing with a comically plump tortilla de patatas, the house specialty. Each enormous omelet contains some 6 kg (13lbs) of potatoes and 25 eggs—Spain’s largest tortilla. Order a generous wedge at the cramped bar along with a cold caña of beer. The omelet will arrive on a paper plate, which you take outside and consume on the steps of the mosque. Every Cordoban has enjoyed this creamy, delicious, life-affirming experience at some point. You should too.
