Some of the biggest birds of prey in the world are displayed at this aviary and educational center near Ballymote. Eagles, vultures, owls, and falcons take part in an hour-long flying show daily at 11am and 3pm—outside or in a purpose-built arena. Most of the awe-inspiring birds who live at the center can be handled by visitors (under close supervision, of course). For young children who prefer their animals a little less intimidating, there’s also a petting zoo, home to lambs, chinchillas, donkeys, rabbits, and even raccoons (which are not native to Ireland but have slowly been spreading here as an invasive species since the early 2010s).
