Another fine place for steaks and seafood, Trá Bán is above a popular bar in Strandhill, a little seaside town about 8km (5 miles) west of Sligo. Steak, lamb and chicken are complemented with an occasional, more adventurous choice, like stuffed plaice paupiette served with prawn mousse and a lemon and dill risotto. If you order a steak, try “reefing the beef” (their phrase, not ours) for an extra €]9, by adding a couple of garlic butter scallops on top. They also offer a special children’s menu (3 courses for €13.50). The atmosphere is relaxed and easygoing, with a cheery and efficient staff. Reservations are recommended, especially on weekends.
