Hook Lighthouse & Heritage Centre
The Hook Peninsula is one of southern Ireland’s loveliest drives, full of captivating vistas and hidden byways to discover. Nestled at the end of it all is this picturesque old lighthouse, the oldest part of which dates from the 13th century, making it the world’s oldest lighthouse still in continuous use. Guided tours do an excellent job of telling the history of the lighthouse and of the surrounding peninsula, which has been occupied since at least the 5th century A.D. There is an active program of special events too, from art courses to ghost tours. Tip: The drive from Waterford is drastically shorter if you take the Passage East Car Ferry.
