The main restaurant of the excellent BrookLodge complex is rightly regarded as one of the best places to dine in the region. The beautiful, blue-tinged dining room makes a wonderful setting for any gathering. This was the first restaurant in Ireland to receive full organic certification, and that ethos guides the outstanding modern Irish menu, which takes localism seriously. Depending on the season, you might find wild monkfish with courgette (zucchini) and fill cream, or beef filet with lemon yogurt or ramson (a wild-growing herb native to northern Europe) and bone gravy. If you’re feeling gregarious, book a place at the “big table”—a communal table that seats up to 40, at which you’re served a set menu in the style of a feast.
