Room renovations have breathed new life into this oceanside old-timer, one of the island's tourism pioneers. The good-value Hilton Curaçao dates back to 1965, when it opened as a Sheraton on a craggy bluff in Piscadera Bay, about a 10-minute drive from the heart of Willemstad. (It's practically next door to the island's other big chain resort, the Marriott.) Pluses include two sweet little sandy beaches and a sheltered cove with a private feel (and decent snorkeling) and a lagoon-style infinity pool. A major room renovation in 2014 should be completed by the time you read this, but if not, request a renovated room—and, if you so desire, a room with an ocean view. This may be the island’s most family-centric resort, with a daily roster of children's activities (the Hilton Kidz Club), a minigolf course, a giant chessboard, and a designated playground. But with an on-site dive center and a casino, Hilton aims to please everyone. Hilton HHonors Diamond members have access to the newly renovated Executive Lounge, which offers complimentary breakfast, a 2-hour happy hour, and evening hors d’ouevres.
