In the same area as the other two caves, but down a different road, is the Nodong-gul, located near Nodongcheon, a branch of the Namhan River. This limestone cave is 800m (2,625 ft.) long. It has a 300m (984-ft.) drop, and a steep incline. They've constructed an extensive system of stairs and railing making the descent possible. There are the usual stalactites and stalagmites, but also cave pearls and unusual formations. It features one of the largest stalagmites in the world and some unusual species found only in vertical caves. It is said to have been created about 500 million years ago. In the middle of the slope are broken pieces of pottery left behind by those who hid here from the Japanese army during the Hideyoshi Invasion of Korea. When it rains, a huge waterfall forms inside.
