Down the Hatch
Occupying a 1940s fish camp on the Halifax River, Down the Hatch serves big portions of fresh fish and seafood, much of which come from its own shrimp boat (it’s often docked outside). Inexpensive burgers and sandwiches are available, too. Boats and shorebirds are visible through its picture windows. At night, arrive early to catch the sunset over the river, and also to beat the crowd to this very popular place. There’s live music on weekend nights. In summer, light fare is served on a covered deck.
