Digby Pines Golf Resort

An iconic Nova Scotia resort, the red-roofed Digby Pines, situated on 121 hectares (299 acres), features sweeping views of the Annapolis Basin close to the Digby–Saint John ferry terminal. As the name suggests, the resort is surrounded by pines and is a throwback to an era when moneyed families headed to fashionable resorts for the summer. Amenities are the reason for coming: an 18-hole Stanley Thompson–designed golf course threads its way through pines and over a brook, plus a spa offers a full menu of organic treatments and services. The resort features three dining establishments, serving award-winning Nova Scotian cuisine with a French flair. Rooms in the 1929 classic (in Norman château style) have been renovated in recent years and have white-paneled walls and carpeted floors with handsome framed photographs of the area, and excellent mattresses. They come in a variety of sizes, from very small ones with twin beds to luxury suites. Alas, the walls could be thicker (if you have loud neighbors, you’ll hear them). Thirty or so cottages of one- to three-bedrooms each are a smart choice for families, most of them outfitted with fireplaces and mini refrigerators.
