Clustered around the Feitian Hotel are small restaurants with English menus, offering "Western" food and overpriced Chinese fare. Favorites are Shirley's, Charley Johng's Cafe, and John's Information Cafe, all located on Ming Shan Lu. Charley's and Shirley's have the best service. A favorite local drink served at many restaurants, including John's and Shirley's, is the delicious xingpishui (dried apricot juice), which is generally home-brewed by soaking the apricots in water, then adding sugar for a tart and sweet combination. If you want to experience a meal in a traditional-style courtyard house, Charley Johng can take you out to his (basic) guesthouse, set amid apricot orchards just yards from the dunes -- ask at the cafe.
