There's also the opportunity to take a camel ride out into the desert away from the crowds. Trips last anything from a couple of hours to a month and can be arranged through any of the Western cafes on Ming Shan Lu. They cost ¥100 for 2 hours, or ¥300 per day for longer trips. Longer trips include guide, food and water, tent, sleeping bag, and a warm coat in the colder months. Even a short trip works out cheaper than a visit to the Mingsha Shan, and the experience feels far more genuine.
