Despite its bleak location, Cafe Maxx is still one of the best restaurants in Broward County. When it opened in 1984, it was the first restaurant to have an open kitchen, and what a stir that caused! Now, instead of the kitchen, the marvel is what comes out of it, like Southern BBQ glazed pork chop Jack cheese risotto, or the green peppercorn-seared Faroe salmon with cherry tomato and garlic broccolini; or the grilled sword fish with caper and olive salsa. There’s so much to choose from. But save room for dessert—the deep dish bourbon and chocolate pecan pie, or the cookies and crème bread pudding or the cinnamon spiced tres leches cake are just three of many diet- and mind-blowing options. Sunday brunch is a great way to try something you’ve probably never tried: caviar pie, a luxe, luscious slice of caviar slathered on whole wheat toast, with two hard boiled eggs, sour cream, and onions.
