During the season, the Miami Dolphins and University of Miami Hurricanes football team play just south of Hallandale at Hard Rock Stadium, near the Dade–Broward County line, 347 Don Shula Dr., Miami Gardens (tel. 305/943-8000).

Gulfstream Park Racing and Casino, at U.S. 1 and Hallandale Beach Boulevard, Hallandale (tel. 954/454-7000), is known for large purses and important horse races (like the Florida Derby) so the track is often crowded at this recently refurbished suburban course. There’s also a casino with slots and electronic table games.

South Florida’s only remaining fronton, Dania Jai Alai, at the Casino Dania Beach, 301 E. Dania Beach Blvd., at Fla. A1A and U.S. 1 (tel. 954/920-1511), is a great place to catch what has become a dying sport, at least in South Florida.

The National Hockey League’s Florida Panthers (tel. 954/835-7000) play in Sunrise at the Amerant Bank Arena, 2555 NW 137th Way. Tickets are exceptionally inexpensive, starting as low as $11.

Last, but not the least bit least, David Beckham has bent the rules and brought major league soccer to South Florida in the form of Inter Miami CF, featuring the one, the only, legendary soccer star Lionel Messi. So why are we including this in the Fort Lauderdale chapter? Because Inter Miami plays in the DRV Pink Stadium,1350 NW 55th St., Fort Lauderdale (tel. 954/428-0611). Tickets, ever since Messi signed on (through 2025), are either impossible to get or upwards of tens of thousands of dollars!
