A friendly, cozy restaurant and bar in the center of Galway City, Martine’s serves good, Irish-influenced bistro-style cooking, with just a hint of an international accent. The menu is short but well-judged: dishes like hake tempura or chicken liver pâté, followed by the catc of the day or a juicy rib-eye steak or burger, cooked in a charcoal oven. They take their meat seriously here: The specials board includes a “cut of the day,” according to what’s best. The “Not so Early Bird” menu has limited options, but is a deal at just €23 for 2 courses, or €28 for 3 (the “not so” because it’s actually available all night, every night)> Martine’s is also a good choice for a simple, tasty lunch of salads, sandwiches, and a few larger plates, all for around €10 or less.
