One of the standout seafood restaurants in this part of Ireland, Oscar’s is a cheerful, relaxed kind of place. The dining room is filled with modern art, and fabric drapes across the ceiling add a bohemian touch. The menu depends entirely on what’s fresh and in season, but you could start with some prawns cooked simply in garlic and butter, followed by filet of monkfish with a chipotle and chorizo sauce; seared Clew Bay scallops with lime drizzle; or a plate of grilled whiting, served with almond and basil pesto. Ingredients are sourced from local producers and farmers’ markets. The wine list is good, with plenty of very affordable choices. If you only choose one place to have seafood while you’re in Galway, this is the one.
