Working Farms
If you want your kids to see a real farm, stop by the Deep Creek visitor center for the brochure called Visit Our Working Farms, Share Our Heritage, which lists farms that welcome visitors.
At Cove-Run Farms, 596 Griffith Rd., Accident (tel. 301/746-6111), there's a corn maze built into 10 acres -- Maryland's largest such autumn attraction. The corn is tall and the paths are tricky, but it's fun to hear the kids squeal as they make their way through. It's open mid-August through October, Friday from noon to 10pm, Saturday from noon to 9pm, and Sunday from 2 to 6pm.
